Crystal Chandelier - The Ultimate Status Symbol

In olden times, the costly demand of night time illumination gave birth to Chandeliers as a symbol of luxury. Given that a chandelier during that time is designed to be a branched candle holder, it proved to be very useful. Generally they were wrought iron chandeliers and the basic material used to make one was wrought iron. Even up to this date, a large number of wrought iron chandeliers still exist and is still used.

During the times when a large part of Europe was still under the power of kings, queens, dukes and monarchs, The crystal chandelier and wrought iron chandeliers were the basic source of illumination which delighted these nobles. Peasants and ordinary townspeople during those times also utilize wrought iron chandeliers to light up their simple homes. Those that stand guard and haunted during the night preferred this tools to light their way and posts. Wrought iron chandeliers truly served their purpose and gave light especially with the cold dark mist that covered the land during night.

When glass making was developed during the 18th century, the crystal chandelier had also began their era and replaced their wrought iron counter parts. From then on, the crystal chandelier became the climax of glamour and style. Through time, the crystal chandelier became a highlight of style and grace. One of the best decoration one can add to a house is a crystal chandelier for they give an extra touch of glamour and style. The crystal chandelier is often used as a welcoming piece for guests and visitors.

Together with time, chandeliers have evolved. Back in the old days, chandeliers were known for their use as multiple candle holders or as a collection of lamps which is powered by gas. Yet, by the early 19th century, some variants that already utilized electricity came out. This move towards electricity, gave birth to the modern chandeliers which we now enjoy.

Contrary to the past generation which utilizes gas and wax, modern chandeliers are now equipped with light bulbs which are powered by electricity. Modern chandeliers have made installation and maintenance a lot simpler because of their logical designs. The incorporation of fire in the previous designs proposed huge risks and danger. Hence, the modern chandeliers which eliminate the utilization of fire insure that it could not burn the house even if left unwatched. Modern chandeliers are more utilized for decorative purposes than its function for it is a symbol of prestige. Today, one can insure that his/her house looks elegant by carefully arranging furniture and having chandeliers as their center piece. Being the center piece of a dining room or a living area is one of the most popular applications of a chandelier. Chandeliers can also be used in any part of the house in which one finds it good to look at and the same time, serve its purpose of illuminating the place.

Modern chandeliers are still beautiful, elegant and are a bonanza of visual proportions. From its inception, these objects in their wrought iron chandeliers form were simultaneously a class of aesthetics and functionality at the same time. Nothing perhaps demonstrates this better than the crystal chandelier. It can illuminate a place literally and through a shower of facets of beauty for onlookers.
