Chandelier Lighting As Form Over Function

by Wyatt Fisk

When buying lighting fixtures for a new home, or when getting replacements, illumination is always the first concern. However, the technology has advanced to the point where it's easy to find lighting to meet your needs. As a result, you should also find lighting that enhances a room and serves as ornamentation, like chandelier lighting.

To give you an idea on how this concept works, visit any building that uses modern decor, such as modern chandeliers. Places like museums, hotels or hospitals must have good sources of illumination. But if you go to one of these places, you'll observe that they find ways to use the lighting efficiently and in an elegant manner. Lights are located where they can add to the elegance of a room or area, and some are even created to draw attention to themselves.

Architectural lighting designers are required to make the lighting in these buildings attractive. However, you can still get attractive lighting for your home if you get all the information you need and plan appropriately. Although many lighting fixtures, such as pendant chandeliers, can fit in with different situations, you have to decide if it fits a specific room on a case-by-case basis.

You'll also need to decide on the different lighting requirements for each room. For example, kitchens and dining rooms need more brightness compared to bedrooms. Take into consideration how often the room is used and its actual proportions. These are your initial considerations when deciding between modern chandeliers and conventional lighting options, like light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, etc.

Chandelier lighting is ideal for areas like dining rooms and living rooms. Whereas most conventional lighting options are meant to blend into a room seamlessly, chandeliers are made to stand out and define a room's personality. You would be putting them to maximum use if you place them where they can make as much visual impact as possible.

Even then, chandeliers may not fit in your house in general. Consider your house's architectural style and decide whether a given lighting fixture will work with it or not. Even an attractive chandelier becomes garish when it clashes with its surroundings. You should only get chandelier lighting for your house after you're sure where you're putting it in a specific room.
